This design project involved multiple sources of seemingly unrelated points of inspiration, which the client described as "a psychedelic, 1920s, western, bohemian, cocktail lounge", including a name derived from John Wayne's 1960's western film.

My challenge was to link these ideas into a logo and branding package that represented the local culture of the small Colorado town in which the bar resides, while maintaining an elevated allure. I leaned into my art historical knowledge by focusing on the revived "Egyptomania" craze that swept the 1920's, and which partly inspired Art Deco, while bringing in the local geography and mystique into the silhouette of a "smokey cowboy". Graphic assets are an eclectic mix of imagery from the Sonoran desert, Art Deco, and abstract shapes and lines.

One highlight from this project is the set of gold foil coasters which I designed as a thaumatrope, which when spun, reveal the bar's mantra "Stay Gold". The project is ongoing, with new creative assets being conjured almost daily for social media, printed napkins, matchboxes, and merchandise.

Pink to Black is a concert series collaboration named for a popular river run. I created the branding for the series including the artwork, wordmark and poster designs for the series.

Illustrations and surface pattern created for the town of Snowmass Village’s winter marketing campaign. The illustrations celebrate the winter activities that Snowmass has to offer on and off the slopes.

I also created a winter greeting card with the designs - find it in my shop!

After two years of online shows, 5Point Film Festival returned to in-person viewing for it’s 15th Annual Flagship Festival.

As the 2022 Featured Artist, I was tasked with creating the festival poster and accompanying merchandise. My role in making the artwork also included graphic design and creative direction.

The artwork features the beloved Mt. Sopris and the dark night sky that we are lucky enough to see in 5Point’s home of Carbondale. The artwork repeats the highest peaks of Sopris fifteen times, in honor of this year’s 15th Flagship festival.

The last images show a festival activity in partnership with Carbondale Arts roving bus, Rosybelle, where participants were invited to screenprint their very own version of the poster artwork.

Nikita approached me to come up with some designs for their Fall 2019 lineup, based on some artwork they had seen in my portfolio. They wanted to return to the early roots of the brand, and requested that I come up with a plant-inspired pattern, so I got to work researching the flora and fauna of Iceland-the birthplace of Nikita.

I came up with grasses, a few flowers, and the adorable Puffin, all hand drawn and arranged into a repeat pattern.

The second design featured here uses Nikita’s iconic slogan “For Girls Who Ride”, or “GWR”. Hand drawn with a fat marker and transformed into a graphic tee.

I was approached by Tincup’s marketing team to create an illustrated recipe booklet to accompany the launch of their oldest aged whiskey, and based off of the illustrations from my Colorado 14er series. Introducing TINCUP Fourteener™.

My roles included Art Direction, Concepting, Illustration, Graphic Design.

Aspen Cycling Tours was looking for a design that would make their presence known at every trailhead. While working through multiple ideas that just weren’t making the cut, I decided on a whim to mock-up one of my mural designs for the van , which was an immediate winner. See the van throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond!

SUDS Refillery is a Kansas City based soap shop that encourages you to bring in old bottles and containers to refill them with new soaps and suds, in an effort to reduce single-use plastic consumption.

My role as the lead designer included creative direction, and development of the entire brand identity.

I illustrated and animated this Sierra mountain scene to map out the route which is traveled by athlete Adrien Costa in the adventure film, Transcendence.

This client was looking for a fun, casual style of branding to match the laid-back atmosphere of the pizza restaurant they were curating. After going back and forth on names, they settled on Moon Pie, which served as a great launchpad for playful graphics and a space themed pizza cutter logo.

The Eagle Valley Trail is a paved recreational trail that extends from the top of Vail Pass to the start of Glenwood Canyon.

This project was initiated to help bring home the additional funding needed to complete the unfinished portions of the trail, enabling trail users to recreate entirely on a protected path.

For this project, I created the illustrated map, and spot illustrations that you see here.

River Butcher is an LA based comic, actor, and writer for whom I have created a ton of fun posters and artwork.

River is a non binary trans guy. A lot of the artworks featured in this gallery were created prior to the name change, which is why you see River referred to as Rhea in most of the illustrations here.

River granted me a lot of space for creative freedom on these pieces which allowed me to explore various themes in a playful way-characteristic of much of my other work.

Many of these images were used to promote River’s stand-up tour dates, while other images never quite found their place.

This was a fun and very quick project that I got to work on with Backbone Media, Tincup Whiskey, and Weston to promote their partnership with C-RAD (Colorado Rapid Avalanche Deployment). C-RAD is a volunteer program that trains dog teams for successful avalanche search and rescue in the mountains of Colorado.

For this project, I created the title graphic, including hand-drawn lettering, and an illustration of a Tincup Whiskey bottle with a celebratory clink of their famous stainless steel shot glasses. I also managed the placement and timing of the Tincup and Weston logos in the opening scene.

I worked on two separate projects for the recreational area known as Red Hill, in Carbondale, Colorado. First was the logo for the Red Hill Council, a non-profit organization that works with the BLM to maintain trails and manage usage. The second project was the informational signage and map for the trailhead kiosk.

Working with the Town of Carbondale and the Red Hill Council, I created the style, color scheme, graphics, and layout for the trailhead panels. I also assisted with copywriting to ensure that the educational messaging was communicated effectively to this heavily used sensitive environment.

I worked with Inkwell Media, Outside Inc., and the visitors bureau of Denver, to create animations and illustrations for this fun video series on adventures that can be done within a short drive of Denver. Play in the Mountains, Stay in the City! I created the animations, title graphic, map illustration, and lower thirds for this series, as well as a set of web banner ads.

Who doesn’t love llamas!? I illustrated and created this repeat pattern for an eco-conscious, female led company called Wild Rye, based in Sun Valley, Idaho. We explored a few different options with color, which you can see below, and ended up settling on a simple two color option.

I was hired by Rising Tide Communications to create a one minute promotional animation for Bristol Bay Salmon, highlighting the benefits of Astaxanthin; a naturally occurring nutrient found abundantly in Bristol Bay salmon.

As the lead illustrator and animator, I worked with the project manager to visualize scenes and animate movement.

I illustrated and created the repeat patterns on these adorable children’s rain boots, for a fun company based out of Salt Lake.

Seattle based pet photographer Stephanie, with Tabby + Chow came to me ready for a new brand identity. She wanted to keep the playfulness of her old logo, but with an updated style.

Working together, we opted for a hand drawn, illustrative logo, and repeat pattern that captured her love of furry friends in a light-hearted, approachable style.

“The Point” is a short documentary film which follows the partnership between Aspen Valley Land Trust, local ranchers, and a boarding school as they take on the restoration of a critical riparian zone at the confluence of two rivers.

My job was to create illustrations and animations which address three main components of the restoration project. First, is the cattle migration to the river through the riparian zone, which caused the need for restoration. Second, is the water system that was installed to meet the needs of the cattle. And third, is the description of fencing that is appropriate and safe for wildlife.

I was allowed a lot of creative freedom on this project which resulted in beautiful scenes with playful movements.

Spring Pilates came to me as a brand new pilates studio with plans to open a welcoming studio in Carbondale, Colorado. I worked with them to create a logo and color scheme that represented the mountain town.

The design features the iconic Mt. Sopris, framed within an abstracted sky. The line work at the bottom of the logo stands as a representation of a pilates reformer, as well as the other famous geographic Carbondale feature, Red Hill.

I created a custom made tie dye pattern for Aspen Cycling Tours 2021 cycling kit, as well as a re-imagined version of the logo on a white jersey.

I also illustrated two designs for their water bottles for the 2021, and 2022 seasons.

The "Lindsay" short (yes, it's really called that!!) was created in collaboration with Shredly. This floral pattern was inspired by the beautiful dahlia flower, for use on Shredly's Spring '18 women specific mountain bike shorts.

Written and Directed by Michelle Smith, starring 82 year old Jacques Houot, who is still racing his bike, and skiing like a madman down mountains of Colorado.

This cute little sneaker was created to mimic a watercolor effect, while utilizing a limited color palette, and flat, solid colors without the typical fades, and variations that you get with watercolor paint.

Aspen Valley Land Trust came to me with a request to update their Landowner Packet, a booklet that informs landowners about the benefits and details of conserving their private land. Our focus for this booklet was a photo-heavy booklet which emphasized the beauty of the western landscape.

This patriotic design was created for the athletes of the 2018 Winter Olympics, and will also be made available for the public. I first designed the pattern with a red, white, and blue color scheme, which we later simplified to a solid blue.

I designed and illustrated this invite package for my own wedding in Moab, Utah.

Pattern created for, and sold at Payless Shoe stores throughout the US in the spring/summer of 2016.

Colorado wildflowers were the inspiration for this Aspen Cycling Tours floral kit. Originally designed with a select few floral panels, a second run was revised to use the full floral print on the entire jersey.
